The 29er is a high performance youth racing boat with a large and highly competitive international fleet. Sailed with two teammates, the boat demands athleticism and quick thinking, as well as teamwork and dedication to master. 29er sailors learn the nuances of apparent wind sailing as well as high performance racing, giving them strong foundational skills they can bring to any of their future sailing endeavors.
Within the US, the 29er fleet is active coast to coast. It produces some of the top youth sailors in the country and is one of the main recruiting grounds for college sailing.
The 29er is one of the most popular youth sailing classes in the world. It is a direct feeder class for the 49er and 49erFX Olympic class skiffs, and is one of two double handed classes at the premier youth sailing regatta, the Youth Worlds.
