Sailing is no longer a blue blazer activity. The sport as a whole is trending towards light, fast boats where athleticism is rewarded. The 29er reflects this broader trend. It develops strong, agile, fit sailors who know their own body as well as they know their boat.
The 29er is a mixed gender fleet. This means that, except for a small handful of regattas, girls and boys race on the same race course, and many time in the same boat. By putting women on an equal playing field as men, it ensures that everyone trains and competes with the full depth of talent and there is no skill disparity between male and female sailors.
Mentorship and collaboration are internationally recognized tenets of skiff culture. Older sailors teach younger sailors, regatta winners talk openly about their tuning with the back of the fleet, and squad training is considered the ultimate key to success. Skiff sailors share what they know and help however they can.
Upright or upside-down, the 29er is fun! Whether you are a world champion or a beginner, the boat presents a consistent challenge with an addictive learning curve. Every day of sailing leads to tangible improvement and because of the boat's light and lively design, the reward for improvement is speed. At the end of the day, who doesn't love going fast with their friends!?
