Coaching Philosophy
Sailing in a lifelong activity. At Skiff+ we coach the means to be successful over that lifetime, starting in the 29er. Our coaches are resources that teach sailors how to learn, about boats. When our sailors encounter a problem, we teach them that first you try to solve it yourself, then you ask your peers, and then you ask your coach. We tie all of our lessons back to the fundamentals, equipping athletes with not just 29er skills, but sailing and racing skills that can be applied to any boat and any team.
Coach Caroline Atwood
Caroline Atwood is a high performance sailor and coach. She grew up racing Optis, 29ers and i420s before attended Tufts University, where she captained the sailing team. After graduating, Caroline competed on the US Sailing Team in the 49erFX and Nacra 17 class. She represented the US over the course of two Olympic quadrennials at multiple world championship, world cup, and continental championships. Caroline has over a decade of sailing coaching experience and has worked with athletes at all levels of the sport. Her real passion is developing elite level youth athletes. Caroline has coached with multiple programs and organizations, including US Sailing’s Olympic Development Program, the US Opti National Team, LISOT, Skiff Squad and 2NINER. Most recently, Caroline ran the Hong Kong 29er National Team for the Hong Kong Sports Institute. Now that she is back in the States, Caroline is looking to elevate the status of American high performance youth sailing, specifically in the 29er. She started Skiff+ to do just that.
Program Goal
Our goal is to teach sailors how to maximize their potential. Going fast and winning races is the product of being a good teammate, a good learner, and having mastery of the fundamentals. There is no secret to performance, just world class basics and consistency. We are here to provide a roadmap and the environment for you to do the work.
